RB, I agree. I have had great success with tools from lesser quality sellers. I've never had one completely fail like this... so I'm a bit upset with myself that I didnt just snug nuts and forget it.
I have the bolt drilled out and the area tapped and have a bolt (sadly with a wide flare Robertson head, not a hex head) in there WITH a nut on top as well for added security. I'll replace that Robertson bolt soon. I just needed to repair the problem last night so I could drive to work today.

My harbor freight torque wrenches have held up better then my snap on ones.

I'm guessing more likely some electrolysis: it it steel bolt and aluminum frame? That can basically weld itself if some salty water gets in there
