x5 heater not working properly

So my newly acquired 2003 x5 4.4i has an issue with the heater as in it'll blow very warm air out of the drivers side vents but the passenger vents get cold and then stop blowing air as well. It makes me thing heater valve but what could cause the air on the passengers side to stop blowing after a bit?

Thanks!

So your saying that air flow (not necessarily hot) on the passenger side stops after a bit ?

yes, it gets cold and them completely stops on the passenger's side.

That is really strange! I hope someone else chimes in, but in the mean time I will try to think what could cause that. Just to be clear, it's cold there and you are trying to get warm, right?

haha yes but the heater on the driver's side vents work perfectly fine so I'm staying warm I just don't like it when something isn't working like its supposed to.

Are you using defrost? A/C comes on with defrost and maybe evaporator is freezing ??

How long have you had your X5? If you have had it for a while have you ever had to recharge up the AC system?

I have only had it for about a few weeks now. I never use the A/C in the winter even for defrost purposes.

I ask because my X5 exhibited a similar behavior. It turned out to be a slow leaking evaporator. Its an extensive repair but got to have AC for the summer months here in Texas. The leak was so minute that the AC would operate but warm air would come out of one side and when we pulled it it had a low charge on the system. Anyway the leaking evaporator on these X5 is not an uncommon occurrence. I replaced mine with a Behr unit as opposed to the factory Valeo unit. I did this repair back in October of last year and all has been good since then.
