Thanks for the 'constructive' criticism. I can see now that my PPI was woefully inadequate. If only you were there to help me out at the beginning. I will be sure to take full advantage of your advice for the next time I purchase a car and bring a full compression, leakdown, and fuel system tester with me. I'm sure the dealership will have no issues with me tearing into the engine in their parking lot.

For everyone else out there who runs into a 'misfire only on idle' issue with your E53, hopefully this thread can help you out.

It does. You are not the first nor the last that experienced what was a large issue that masked it self into pushing you down dead end paths. Happens to techs everywhere. Hindsight is ALWAYS 20/20.

When I said a decent PPI I meant a shop that can do a decent PPI. I know most people think that they can inspect a car, but like you said, the dealer probably not going to let anyone tear down a car, but if you told them that you would like to have the car inspected by a certified mechanic at a reputable shop, unless they have something to hide, most dealer won't mind.
