Windshield fluid pumps. Quick question.
Mine are leaking. It seems like it's the grommet but I'm not sure. I noticed that the factory ones are about 60 dollars. And the after market is about 16 dollars.
Is there a big difference between factory and aftermarket where longevity and build quality is concerned to warrant the price difference? |

The winshield pumps work perfectly fine. The headlights I don't think are working. The headlight can stay for now. I just want to fix the leak because I'm wasting my fluid plus it's a safety issue when I need a clean windshield on the go.

My washer pump for the rear window was leaking. It was not the grommet but rather the fluid was coming out of a weep hole built into the pump. I replaced the pump and all is good. Bought mine off Ebay for 14.95 shipped. Heres the link if it helps.

FYI...the headlamp washers only work when the headlights are turned ON. And then, only every 5th wash initiation when using the normal wash cycle vs the "special" intense wash program (if so optioned). :) |
This is one topic has been posted over and over again. Simple solutions posted before are: purchase two aftermarket pumps motors, get the rubber gaskets with screens for all three pumps, pull the bucket out of the car after disconnecting the pumps from the washer reservoir, this will give you the room to disconnect the electrical connectors and the hose lines. Take the bucket into your sink area and clean out all the junk in the bottom. Then replace all the seals, pumps and re install. Leave the headlamp pump alone and in the car.
The pumps are high failure items as they leak internally and as mentioned the seals dry out and leak. If you follow this path your repairs will be a one stop to solve all your issues. Note: if you are missing the filter screen little insert http://www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine-b...r/61661365848/ at the fill area of your reservoir, buy one now or you will have pressure leaks in the future now that you sealed all the other leaks. The fill screen allows the bucket to vent properly or you can drill a hole in the top of cap. Your car your choice. Link to ECS to see all that are your choices on parts as you maybe missing a few items due to tech abuse and previous owner neglect. https://www.ecstuning.com/BMW-E53-X5...terior/Wiper/2 |

I changed my headlight pump... because I broke the 'plastic nose' of it! I was trying to shut down the fire above the exaust colector :D
I bought used original OEM for 15e in bmw graveyard! It was leaking as well for few minutes! I was turning it both directions amd so on!How I stopped this leaking still can not understand! :D My previous was with extra gum ring! Probably previous owner put on that ring because of leaking! |
Shaft seal failure causing internal leak was the cause and your bandaid repair solves the issue, congrats
