Quick ? re: Trunk stops

Does a new set of trunk stop COME with brand new bolt/nut.
Pics seems to infer so, yet there is also seperate PN for it....
Can anyone confirm. Ordering a set...

It's ahhhhmazing how much creaking one can get when a simple stopper fails on one sight.
It's almost as bad as a wheel bearing
bump
-----
Disregard. Just ordered a set of stops sans no nut/bolt...
The part that always get's rusty, regardless of being new or not, is the bolt holding the rubber bumper.
Just due to how it's the water channel area and excessive moisture..

Ricky Bobby 03-27-2017 11:09 AM

Yes it comes as an assembly, has a small rubber gasket on back, nut for the back that you secure on the inside of the X, and the star bolt in the rubber stopper - they are like $35 per side but so worth it -

jsoto 03-27-2017 11:15 AM

This would be 2nd time I'm replacing them....should've ordered from FCP back in the day. I was more of a turner/tischer/bmwminiparts sorta guy, but those lifetime policys do count for something. Last couple of puchases have been primarily FCP.

The other one is fine, just a tad rusty on the torx bolt with grease I put in, but it keeps on washing out due to the water I suppose. Right one collapsed.

Ricky Bobby 03-27-2017 11:16 AM

^Yeah I had one that failed after a year, so I got a pair from FCP - another year in and both are ok to date -

AV8R4AA 03-27-2017 05:24 PM

Love those bumpers.
Shoulda been that way off the assembly line

jsoto 03-27-2017 05:43 PM

OT, but I've noticed this depending on what particular part I've ordered....
As these models get older and Depreciate more, respectively, certain parts go up in price. A set of the side bumpers now run more that what I probably paid for at least 5-6 years ago

That seem the trend for most parts, especially for discontinued vehicles.

Ricky Bobby 03-28-2017 10:10 AM

And it will get even better as they get older and suddenly parts are NLA

Joshdub 03-28-2017 11:54 AM

Yeah prices go up. Every day is a gamble with the E30. I wish I bought a mtech 2 steering wheel years ago. One day it went from $350 new to $750. New OE black carpet, went from under $600 to now over 1k. Same with the dashboard. Floor mats went from $100 to $500 to NLA. You just have to wait for BMW Mobile Tradition to start reproducing certain parts for the prices to go back down.

jsoto 03-29-2017 04:28 PM

OT, but while FCP has the lifetime policy, I've taken up in their pricematch twice sofar. Once on the wiper motor, right now on a ac compressor...

And I'm old skool, meaning, I generally just *buy* from the guy who has the best deal if I'm price shopping. I don't like to go back to Y to say price match X and I'll go with you instead. But their ~lifetime~ policy is too tempting and has swayed how I generally will approach the lowest price seller....

crystalworks 03-29-2017 04:43 PM

^I usually just pay the slightly higher (usually) price at FCP due to the lifetime warranty. They will take anything back... even wear items including belts, pads, filters, bushings, etc.

Also noticed huge benefits installing new bump stops on the 4.8is. Hope they don't collapse as reported here. :( Especially if they are going to go up in price substantially.

jsoto 03-29-2017 05:21 PM

Former has the updated stops
One collapsed
Put new ones on. Noticed it's got a bit more *bouce* in eject when you hit the trunk release button.

Got to redo them though.
To torque it tight, so the gasket is nice and snug on the sheetmetal, the alignment of them naturally turns a bit towards the movement of the nut.....

OCD in me want's it perfectly straight. Need to stick a plastic trim wedge tool to hold the bumpstop in place as I snug the nut. It was good enough to at least deal with the creaks.

re: fcp and higher price.......
There was a $150 savings on price match on the ac compressor that I ordered today.

On the wiper motor, I can't recall but it was definitely somewhere in ~considerable~ amount as well.

Can't complain. A dollar saved is a dollar spent elsewhere

That is substantial. I definitely would have done the same on that sort of savings. How did the process work BTW? Do you email them? Call?

jsoto 03-29-2017 05:39 PM

They have a price match request form you fill out. You need to add the item to the cart...and then their system ask your for price , url, and then they ~get back to you~ via email. Usually takes 2 hrs or the following day depending on when you submit it....obviously since it's a manual process that is involved.

yeah, I would not do a price match on $10 difference....I generally don't play the match X price and I'll go with you, but, the net diff. on said items was at least a benji or close to that.

Someones got to pay for their fancy website....no free lunch in this world.

jsoto 03-29-2017 05:55 PM

I just started shopping with FCP.....my primary place of haunting were tishcher, getbmw, bmwmini and rme.

Does FCP actually stock anything or is everything for the most part drop shipped -- depending on what you order ? Just curious... somehow I was always under the impression when I never ordered with them, they fulfilled through Worldpac.

Based on the UPS/FedEx alerts I've gotten, they have dropshipped from BMW dealers, wholesalers and also had stuff drop shipped to the CT warehouse and then shipped the order in whole. Just Kurious....

------
Update. Are you ready for this one...
The wiper motor they dropshipped was from Autozone .
And the weird thing was after I got my UPS shipping alert, just for sch1tz and giggles, I went onto AZ website. They did not carry the part I ordered from FCP. I called AZ 1800 # to see if it was any different than their website, and same thing, they did not carry it.

Kinda interesting to understand the whole ~car parts~ of things.

Ricky Bobby 03-30-2017 11:26 AM

To be honest I don't know about whether FCP drop ships but adding a price match function is great and I've used it with several retailers lately and really like it (as I hate Amazon) - saved me $150 on a firearm purchase recently too and was quick and easy

jsoto 04-01-2017 09:18 PM

For the OCD, everybody should have 2 full sets of the plastic trim tools on hand. Ended up using 2 particular profiles just to wedge/hold the stopper - to keep it perfectly aligned when tightening up the nut on these.

LOL. I've been sorta of purging some extra tools on Ebay - and this is a perfect reminder that sometimes, once does sorta need doubles or triples of everything ;-0

You guys do know that the bump stops are adjustable. Just loosen the torx screw and turn the rubber counter clockwise to raise the stop or clockwise to lower the stop.

jsoto 04-05-2017 11:19 PM

The new-newer design is spring loaded.

You have to go through the trouble of buying and installing the new stops, whereas, most of the time a little adjustment can save you some time and money. My stops are still original and the rear lid is stilled rattle free after 5 minutes of adjusting the bump stops.

jsoto 04-06-2017 04:00 PM

Car already had the superseded part already. It collapsed

crystalworks 04-06-2017 04:57 PM

I prefer the spring loaded stops. I still have a set of the original adjustable ones here though just in case the new design proves to be less than reliable.
