Stop Engine Oil Pressure! Warning
 

When the engine gets up to temperature especially on hot days I get the Stop Engine Oil Pressure warning. It seems to do it when I'm stuck in traffic and idling especially when it is still in DRIVE. It does it much less in Neutral or Park.

I have checked the oil level and its fine and the oil was changed quite recently.

Its been with this issue since I had it last summer and in winter it hardly did it for me but now the weather is more summer its starting to do it again.

What engine do you have

When Mine was doing that, the oil filter was crushed. Last guy didn't use an OEM filter.

Update:

I replaced the Oil Pressure Sensor (on the oil filter housing) with a brand new BMW sensor and it started putting out the warning more often and sometimes added Check Oil Level when turning the engine off.

The oil and oil filter are recently replaced and I used an original BMW oil filter.

My mechanic connected a manual (analog) oil pressure tester in place of the oil pressure sensor (on the oil filter housing) and after a good run on idling the test says that there is 15 PSI which is good (I believe recommended is around 10 psi on idling)

So long story short - Oil, oil filter and oil pressure sensor (on oil filter housing) are all good and the oil pressure is not low. (around 15 psi on idle)

Are there any other sensors or what could be the problem ? Funnily after doing the oil pressure test and then putting back the sensor it is not (at the moment) complaining about oil pressure.

I don't know if it has anything to do with it but the AUX fan (of the AC) does not work AT ALL but I still use the AC and it blows cold air like it is supposed to.

I seem to remember reading about an oil pressure check valve in the heads somewhere on the forums?

Whether or not that is the problem I don't know, but it's a cheap set of parts to try since your engine seems to be getting enough pressure.

This says it for the V8. Will it apply to mine ? Its a 3.0d

Nope - this part is not for M57 (or M57N) 3.0d diesel engines - it's for the N62 (4.4 and 4.8) V8 engines (according to Real OEM).

Which doesn't mean to say that there isn't a similar part with a similar failure mode in the M57 (or M57N) diesel. :confused:

I'll see if I can track anything down...
