If you're a DIYer then you shouldn't have any problems getting a set of halogen OEM's off of craigslist or ebay and modifying them as many members have done. |

"foggy lenses...restoration kit" Used the 3M kit on mine. Lenses clear as new. Added clear bra that also adds protection for the lenses. Just use a spray bottle of water during polishing to keep them wet. Worked great for me. Even one of the drivers at BMW in Greer said they looked great and was wanting to polish the lenses on his car.

It's worth noting that even if the claimed lumen output of that bulb is accurate (and it's probably a lie inflated by at least double), it's not actually suited to the optics of the reflector or projector options available for the X5.
My experience with LED bulbs in halogen reflectors has been that they produce significantly less actual useful output down the road. There's a ton of light, but most of it is wasted to the sky, down on the close up road, etc. They have awful throw. Good for flash to pass as supplemental high beams (if you have bi-xenons), but terrible for vision. |
I have Xenons in my 2001 and will be pulling them apart to put in halo rings soon. I have no plans to change the bulbs, I like the output and pattern of the xenons.
Just looking for tips and tricks on pulling the housings apart and performing the halo addition, but it looks like Skeletor never finished his write up on doing it on the pre-facelift lights. |
