rear abs sensor ring
 

Well, ive had 3 yellow lights on for a bit now and I'm getting hacked of with it .
decided to sort it out
been over to garage to get my codes read , rear right sensor wasn't working , . that was a wiring fault , that got rectified on site.
left garage , and went down street.
when you brake the pedal judders , like you got a sticking calliper . ( thought , great this again, I know what's going to happen next). next thing PING dsc inactive
returned to garage ,again , rear sensor.
he said you might have some crap on the sensor ring , clean it off and try again,
so I went home , removed wheel and took a load of mucky grease n crud
now I know I've not got all of it off
now what's puzzling me is this, the rear bearing is only a few months old , and I cleaned the outer surface when I installed it , so where's all this grease n crap appeared from.
next question , is ive used wd40 to get it all off, but its being stubborn, what do you think I should use?
plus, can you get to the sensor ring another way to clean it , or is it just through that little hole? ( sensor)

I think the "sensor ring" is built into the rear cv joint itself. If the cv boot is split, it would chuck cv grease everywhere but I doubt that would affect the operation of the wheel speed sensor.

What was the original wiring fault? Can it still be the issue?

the wiring fault/problem , I had was the PO decided to cut both the connectors off for the brakes and the DSc sensor,
Then joining the wires for the brake sensor together on the loom side to fool the car that the sensor was there and working
then the speed sensor module was badly soldered to the main loom and wrapped in white plastic heat shrink
I think I have fathomed some hings out with this . the place I was trying to clean was in fact the top of the driveshaft

so I needs to find a way to clean the bit "on the side"

plus as well , ive noticed something with the speed sensor I bought to replace the old one

It's gong to be very hard to clean the rear face of the wheel bearing without first removing the drive axle and then the bearing/hub assembly. And note that if you remove the bearing/hub assembly, you'll need new bearing retainer bolts - they are single-use.

You could try spraying a ton of WD40 into the hole where the speed sensor fits, while rotating the hub. That might flush most of the crap out... into a drain tray under the hub.

As for the sensor part, the older (superseded) part should still work - unless something else has been modified in the car (unlikely).

I've got some liquid heavy duty degreaser, I could spray some of that on the back of the bearing and rotating it ,

o am thinking on cutting an old credit card up or similar into a slight L shape to place in and hopefully wipe it down ,

I don't want to remove the driveshaft again, , it was a nightmare last time I did it , I couldn't get the DS into the hub

plus as for the newer sensors , ive looked and the description says to be used on cars with dsc, ? older one just says abs

Not sure about the degreaser - if it gets into the bearing it will dilute the lubrication, leading to early bering failure.

Anything that can clear crap from the rear face of the bearing will likely do - the credit card idea is a good plan.

And I hear ya re. the axle (drive shaft) fit into the hub - it can be a bit of a bear!

Well , this is odd
I made sure the sensor ring was clean , and fitted the new abs sensor , drove car up road , and straight away , the rear right brake felt like it was stuck on the car had a bit of a problem getting going and it sounded terrible ,
meanwhile the abs light was flickering , the sticking eased off slightly still abs flickering , then PING , dsc inactive , and everything went back to normal
this is confusing the hell out of me now
now some one humour me her a little ,
IF the sensor ring is damaged on the bearing , and the sensor is picking a WAY different value to the other wheels, would it cause the abs pump to apply pressure to the calliper ?
because until I get the 3 lights the one rear brake seems stuck on ,

after out UK long weekend holiday , I'm going to book it in and get my mechanic to replace the bearing , as I'm getting convinced that beating the crap out of a drive shaft to get it back into the hub is going to do SOME damage
