Tell that to people that have Allison transmissions. Dexron VI is not backward compatible with Dexron III in an Allison transmission. I know the X doesn't have an Allison transmission, but the seal and material technology for that time period might have been utilized in our X. I rather be safe than sorry.

Just wondering as Delco Dexron site states it is compatible but since it is ATF reference, was wondering if there is something out there that is clarification for BMW PS.

I agree with better safe than sorry.

Crawl underneath and on the transmission pan there is a sticker and it will give you a bmw part number, it will probably lead to dexron 6. It may also say it is a lifetime fluid which some people have figured out to be when ever the life of the trans is over after running the fluid way past its life.

In the mid to high 80K range in 2014 I flushed and filled my 4.4L tranny 4x with this

All is well at 102K

And I also use it in the PS reservoir with a flush and fill when I changes a leaking hose and reservoir.

PS: the reservoir has a filter in the bottom of it so maybe at 100K or so it might be worth changing?????

That's what I do. Not expensive part, easy to replace as PM when changing out the fluid.
