4.8 Engine Oil Filter stuck.

Am I being stupid here?

Drained the old engine oil.
Undid filter under engine.
Removed filter lid/canister.
Pulled filter downwards = STUCK

It will not come of it's spigot. I have pulled, twisted, heaved. Nothing.

It will not come out. I have replaced loads of these from above with no issue.

I have the new one in my hand and it has nothing to show why it would stick.
Any clues.

Thank you. As I thought, it only has, what the diagram shows = a center post that the filter fits over.

I will take a screwdriver to it next time. I had to give up this time. Close inspection of the old oil and the filter show that it has recently been changed (I
just bought the car from a good dealer). He had replaced the air filter etc. So I am guessing they had also done done the oils.

Anyway, as I only do a couple of thousand between changes it will be fine.

FYI: The book and Google state 8 litres of oil? I think that this does not include the litre that sits in the filter housing? MIne took 9 litres to to reach the mid point on the dip stick.
