What does it matter anyway. At this point you should really be considering doing a cooling system upgrade repair due to the age of the vehicle and the fact that you have leaking coolant. Don't try to fix what you think is the one leak button it all back up to find out that an another leak persists. Just take the path of peace of mind and do the cooling system maintenance. There are countless accounts of folks with the 4.8is and coolant leak problems. All of which can be solved doing the cooling system maintenance.

Too late now Jay, that train has long left the station! It's all back together, but I'm dealing with a new issue of the misfire due to a Camshaft sensor error.

I don't consider a cooling system as something that must be totally rebuilt at some age or mileage as long as the components are checked at some reasonable frequency. While it is logical that at least hoses should have the similar lifecycles that is not the reality.

Yup. I had the same damn hose break. I was going nuts trying to fix it. Almost took off the intake manifold and noticed the leak last min. Was a bitch to fix, wiggling the hose and clamps under the IM. But it's an easy fix.

Out of curiosity, what did your shop charge for those repairs? I'm looking at the same issue with my '03 4.6is after recently replacing the timing chains and guides and rebuilding the VANOS myself. It can't be more difficult than that task!

Thanks in advance,

Robb

He said those y pipes ALWAYS break when removing intake.
As for your coolant leak can't say for sure the source.

IMO you might as well continue with the collapsible replacement coolant pipe
now. If it's near 100K, it's done. Not a cheap repair, but it's a one and done
modification. You are 3/4 of the way in there.

Rob, the 04 has the N62 motor, you have the M62. No "Y" connection on your motor. As I put in the other post, just pull the intake and you will see everything right away.
