mouse attacked fuel sensor - wire pin terminal tool?
This is actually pretty funny and kind of a relief relative to needing a new sensor - after my fuel gauge dropped to empty and my 2006 x5 starting throwing a bunch of fuel related codes, i checked the "hidden" menu tank levels to find nothing in the left side. I checked the fuel level sensor under the back seat and found a mouse nest and chewed up wires.

My local auto parts store was useless. Does anyone know if this universal one from Amazon should work? Thanks! https://www.amazon.com/Lisle-56500-T...dp/B0009OR906/ |
Google "Butt Connector".

Good day!!! Well, if you aren't in any hurry and the X still runs and drives, I can pull the connector and a good length of wire from the YPIY the next time I go... A little splice and you're done... If you don't want to deal with pulling the connector apart... Cheers!! |
Thanks for the feedback. UPDATE: After frustration with my local auto parts store and even walking into an indy shop to see if they can just pull out the pin connectors (they couldn't), I was able to pull them out with a needle nose and brute force.
I messed up the re-soldering though and although the fuel level issue was fixed, a p1092 "lean bank 2" code remained which I assumed was due to some poor resistance readings at the sensor since it wasn't there before the mouse attack. I re-soldered again and the code and SES has gone away (for now at least). Word to the wise - in retrospect, I should have bought new pins (actually the female pins) rather than try to reuse to the old ones. Hopefully, the code won't come back. |
