BMW - Park Distance Control (PDC)

On my 4.8is which is a 2006 model. The PDC is not working correctly. So when I select reverse I get a single long tone with the light going green. Which (I believe) indicates a fault in the system?

I connected the car up to my BMW icarsoft which can/should read the e53 PDC.

It cannot communicate with the PDC ECU? This gives me a communication failure on the icarsoft that asks that I retry etc.

I can see all the other ECU's in the car and interrogate them without issue using the same icarsoft tool.

Can I assume from this that the PDC ECU in the trunk is broken?

My Radio (that sits in front of this ECU) was broken (no sound output) and had to be repaired (not with water damage) so I am thinking that the PDC ECU may have gone the same way.

I hear no ticking at the sensors with the car in reverse and from the ones I can see? all four rears and the two outer fronts, they are all connected OK.

Any thoughts? I can get a replacement ECU fairly cheaply from ebay.

When one of my PDC sensors went out on my E39 M5, I would have the same symptoms. One long tone upon putting the vehicle in reverse then silence. Even if I got close to objects it wouldn't notify me.

If you put the vehicle in reverse with the key in position 2 (I believe) - Don't start the vehicle. You can put your hand over each of the sensors and you should hear a clicking noise. The one that doesn't click is the culprit.

Is it possible whomever repaired the radio accidentally disconnected the PDC wiring harness? You should be able to check yourself by removing the plastic trim in the right hand side of the trunk and verify the connection.

I checked this (Thank you) it has three connectors and all are good. I assume:

1 = Power
2 = Front sensors
3 = Rear sensors

Anyhow. All three are connected. Oh the PDC was faulty "before" I had the radio repaired. I bought the car with these faults. Previous owner just says they didn't work.

Go somewhere quiet and put your ear close to each sensor , turn ignition on dont start car press the pdc sensor in car and walk round and listen to each sensor you should hear clicking like that of the click on a gas stove lighter....one sensor out means all system down....then it is either the sensor or cable cut to it, or even the harness totally disconncected behind bumper

Tried this. I have no ticking or clicking noises from any of the sensors? This is with my ear pushed right up against them.

Check the fuse to make sure the PDC module is getting power. The working sensors should click even if the system is in fault mode.:thumbup:

agreed sounds like no power to em or the harness not connected

Does the light flash or stay on solid when PDC is switched on?

The light goes solid the starts to flash with the beeps (if that makes sense). Anybody know which fuse is the PDC?
