I need tires for the 4.6is!

New to me X5.
Front tires are thin. Back tires a little bit better.
I have Nitto tires on there now.
My other X5 has Michelin Diamonties.
They are nice..... but pricy.

What you guys running on the rare 4.6is?

I have Continental Extremecontact DWS tires on my 4.6is, and Extremecontact DW tires on my 540it. The DWS tires were already on my 4.6is because it originally came from Seattle, but if I were to replace them then I'd get the DW tires since there's never any snow here in Phoenix. Great tires though— not too much road noise, nice tread pattern, and priced pretty well.

THESE!

I chose these 'cause I was on (yet another) road trip in Dec last year. As we often do on these kind of 'rambling adventures', we found ourselves at a mall with a Sears Auto Center. All they had in stock was the DWS. I was skeptical at first since my experience with Conti's and my 540, 330, even the 3.0 X5 wasn't spectacular. I have no data or meaningful insights to offer for that impression, but it sent me to the Michelin counter more times than not.

I've now driven over 10k miles since then across most of the Eastern part of the country- and even Canada. Twice on this trip I've tailed a 'rabbit' who hit triple digits for 2-3 hours at a time. The tires are quiet. They're stable. The ride is outstanding.

I do notice that the sidewalls show evidence of some more extreme (low speed) driving around tight turns on National Park roads. This is probably why the Interstate ride is so nice. Wear seems even at 10k. I should note though that I also added rear spacers shortly after I put them on. I am watching closely for uneven tire wear. If it stays nice, spacers may do something more than just look pretty. I'd appreciate input from spacer folks on that one.

I will also confess that in the 10k miles- mostly road trips with the family and loads of luggage- I have found myself thinking how nice they are. My experience with Michelins is that they started getting loud ab 1/2 way through the ~20k mile life span. Not so with these.

At this 10k mark, they're the best tires I've put on this 4.8s X5.

I'm anxious as hell to see what happens for the next 10k miles with the DWS. Since I do not drive much at all working from home, it may be December until we take up another road trip and etch away some more miles.

Another vote for the Contis. Great all around tire. Ride fantastic, very little road noise and grip very well.

I have some Bridgestone Dueler A/Ts on my X5. Perhaps a little too much of a truck tire for you, but the life is supposed to be 80,000 miles and the price was good.

Glad to hear so many rave reviews for the Conti DWS's... just purchased a new take off set on CL for the wife's style 597 (also picked up on CL). Best part of it was... tires were $280 for the pair, and the wheels were $600 with some rash. Perfect for daily driver diesel duty!

Still debating getting new OE sensors for the new set of 20's so I don't have to break down the stock 19" wheels/tires on it currently and have a complete spare set.

I have the same. Just about time for new tires. I won't be getting more of these they're too darned noisy.

How many miles might I expect on the DWS Conti's?
I don't drive hard, just cruise around.

Does anyone run Nitto tires here?
They came with the X5

Rears lasted 30k, fronts almost 50k.

I have run Nitto's on other vehicles, but not on the e53. Specifically the 555. They were solid. I would easily get 30,000 out of them. Definitely quieter than run-flats, but not quite as quiet as high dollar tires (conti, pirelli, michelin). Solid wet weather performance and great dry weather.

I was considering another set of Nittos until I lucked into those 315/35/20 Conti's on CL. I may still use them on the fronts...
