2004 X5 Panoramic Sunroof Errors Diagnostic Help
1 Attachment(s)
I know this subject has been beat to death on this forum but almost all of the threads are about broken mechanical sliders in the rear tilt function so they do not apply here.
My wife opened the sunroof in Key West to cool the car down with no problems at all, but when I went to close it nothing would happen. I manually closed it no problem by cranking the motor to close the glass and then the shade. At that point I could open the roof with the switch but the switch would not close it. Nothing would close it without manually closing it again. The sunroof has not been opened in years so fixing it may open a can of worms but again, I just want to diagnose it and then decide. I took a screenshot of the errors pulled with BMW Scanner and was wondering if anyone on our forum would know what the errors are. Specifically what the SHD and SoS normalization errors mean. From what I know from reading, it could be either the motor or the module. I believe the motor has hall effect sensors in it to detect direction and my first thought are exactly that. However a quick voltmeter check shows no voltage getting to the motor when the switch it pressed. I can hand crank the slider from the motor on the rear so I think the cables for those are are not the issue. I am still not sure how I will follow up with any repair but I would like to at least diagnose the issue. |
Try following the attached.
I'm suggesting the roof needs reinitialised https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=MLg3yR8Z2PE |
Thank you, yes I tried that initialization. I do get a slight click at about 15 seconds into it but never moves anything.

Mine panoramic just dont close. Is just stays tilt open. I was able to close it manually but it leaves a gap between the two sunroof. The opposite ends are close flush. What could be the problem.

I've just repaired mine, following this forum info, and some videos on youtube, found two main issues: motor pinion had to be replaced as it didin't move the worm cable, and also had to 'kill' the tilt on the rear glass(there is a video showing how to on youtube).
After this, and related to yur question, i think that all fault codes appear as soon as roof fails. When i got mine moving again, i did some diagnosis and everytime roof got stuck, all fault codes raised, i don't think you are going to get much info from them.... |
