Wow you really went to the dealer and expected to get a great price on the part? You could have avoided wasting your time by just using the on line vendors for this part at a better price.

I've had the dealer come within 20% of FCP prices on OEM parts if they've already got it in stock - recent examples include a radiator and valve cover. They don't seem to mind relieving their inventory of 2002 model items. If you've got a good relationship with your service writer, it never hurts to ask. Depending on the service writer's customer service ratings, they're awarded varying levels of "goodwill dollars" to apply to the customers of their choice. I never fail to receive at least a 15% discount on parts and labor.

2002 X5 3.0 327,600 miles
2014 428i 29,000 miles

2004 325i sold at 123,600 miles
2001 325i sold at 66,000 miles

Job done.
Replaced with factory BMW part.
AC bone chilling cold now!
Almost no coolant leaks while swapping the hoses.

Glad I paid for the correct part.
Original one gave 13 years service in the Texas heat.
Can't top that!
