P0102 - MAF Sensor

Hello,

2000 4.4I X5. This thing is eating MAF sensors. I bought it a year ago with a P0102 code, no MAF readings from the ecm. Changed it out for an OEM Bosch unit, code went away no problems. 2 months ago, engine goes into fail safe, restart runs fine, but P0102 pops again. Once again no readings from MAF sensor. Replace it with another OEM Bosch unit. Code clears, stays off, all is good. Today, fail safe again. Start it back up, every warning light is going off. Drives away fine. But will not idle, have to 2 foot it when coming to a stop. Didn't do this before. Get it home, only code is P0102 again. No reading from MAF. Unhook battery, hook it back up, still will not idle. Leave it for 5 hours, try it again, runs fine but still has P0102, and no readings from MAF.

Any ideas??? Am I just that unlucky to get 2 bad replacement sensors??? They work perfectly at first. I will try cleaning this one, but doubt it will do much. How dirty could a 2 month sensor be? This thing has only been driven 5000kms in the last year.

Thanks
Steve

First off BOSCH is not the OEM for the MAF, at least not on the M54 engine. The OE MAF is manufactured by Siemens. If you did buy it from the dealer, the MAF will still have a warranty. Just bring the MAF with your receipt and get a new one.

Ok well everything I can find shows Bosch F 00C 2G2 032 as the stock sensor. I have been using the VW F 00C 2G2 029 in the stock BMW housing for the last 2 replacements. First one from a local place, last one from rockauto. As this is a well documented swap / alternative I do not believe I am using the wrong or potentially defective sensor.

Truly I think I just got 2 duds. It took 3 acdelco power steering pump to get a good one on my truck, so that is just how it goes for me.

Is there anything that could be frying sensors??? Intake track is pretty clean.

Thanks
Steve

AC Delco pumps? Really?

I wouldn't try using any American branded parts suppliers for German stuff. Better off with Ford or Chevy bits.

Haha sorry when I said truck I meant my gmc 2500hd. The x5 is an over grown car :)

Nothing like chasing down a problem only to find out the brand new part is toast right out of the box.
