Driver side door handle replacement
 

Hi guys,

So my driver side door handle broke at my indy mechanic. Yup, he pulled the driver side door open and it broke right in his hands.:( Now I have to replace the carrier handle with labor. Can I take a shot and order the Febi 51218243615 carrier handle from FCP Euro? I would save some cash vs the Genuine BMW carrier handle which cost $138.69. Has anyone had experience with Febi carrier handles?

I used Febi to replace left and right front door handle carriers in my '01 back in February.

I got them at RMEuropean, with free shipping (ground, but actually always comes overnight to California) for about $40 each.

Visually, they looked just as high quality as the OE ones, repeating the OE design flaws to perfection.

Some on this list report fitment difficulties with the Febi. But I had no problems. I even found one area where I can see if a certain part was not tucked in right in the right sequence, it might cause problems.

Others on this list report swapping cable assemblies from the OE one to the new Febi. I did not do that, but saved the old ones, just in case.

But I did everything myself, and would do any repair myself. I know the decision making might change when you're paying someone else to fix it.

Yup, they will work. Yes they still break.

They are made in Germany and marked as so right on the part.

They occasionally are harder to install (screw hole doenst line up), they are a bit less smooth in opertion, and they break a bit earlier than originals.

I've since gone back to OE for this part. Just personal preferrence, the Febi is perfectly serviceable.

This is based off my limited sample of around four Febis and 3 OEs.
