Hard to Believe but true

I meet this guy through a friend the other day. He has a 05 X5 4.4 that he Dinaned chipped with a cold air intake. He has 220,000 miles on it and it doesn't use a drop of oil in between oil changes. I said really, because so many people have had valve seal problems. He told me that he changes his oil very 5k and only uses 40w synthetic, he couldn't remember what brand. It doesn't leak oil ether. We live in CA where the weather is mild to hot. I did ask him if he takes it to the snow and if it starts slow in cold weather, he said "nope, runs great".

So my question is, anyone else doing this? He's be doing this for a long time and had a positive affect it would seem.

I'm at rt ab 1/2 that mileage on my '04, so not a great comparison. But I do not use oil and have changed the oil every 5-7k miles since 11k. No smoke either.

My E46 on the other hand uses 1-2 qts between similar oil change intervals. We picked it up from the Performance Delivery Center almost 16 years ago. I drove an '04 3.0 to 100k. It used ab 1 qt per interval on a motor replaced under warranty at 30k miles.

And when he drove that car off the lot, did it go up in value?

Using good quality oil and frequent oil changes can always effect the outcome of a vehicle if this was the care given from the beginning. Does not seem to be an unusual story. Keep in mind that when BMW built and sold these E53's they were upping the duration of oil changes because of technology and synthetics. I change my synthetic oil every 5k and my X5 does not burn any oil.
