How to disable Steering Wheel moving feature
How to disable the steering wheel going up on key off and down on key on.
This drove me freaking nuts so I had to disable it. Since info this is HORRIBLY spotty I figured someone might like a definitive answer on how to do it and easy to search for spot too. I know I would of when this started. It takes ncs expert to code it. Several post list this : steering wheel tilt upon entry - EINSTIEGSHILFE_HOEHE - active steering wheel extend upon entry - EINSTIEGSHILFE_LAENGE - active What they don't tell you is WHERE it is. Its located in the SM module. Change EINSTIEGSHILFE_HOEHE - activ to EINSTIEGSHILFE_HOEHE - nicht_activ Also make sure the next line reads EINSTIEGSHILFE_LAENGE - nicht_activ Mine already had the 2nd one set to disable. So disabling the first one did it for me. Code that in and presto no more possessed steering wheel. |
Have you tried NCS Dummy? It has translations and a search feature... you can put things like "steering wheel" (for this case) and search and it will show the modules that "steering wheel" is in (you can even do this while not plugged in). Then you just hit next until the tilt one comes up, load the actual module in the car, and code it and write it back to the car.

Its coded now and that was my last thing on my todo list. I have the ncsdummy program but it didn't work when I tried it in the past. NCS Expert always worked but can be a pain. I prefer pa soft if it covers what I need which it usually does.
Well now that I think about it I do have one more thing to change. I need to reprogram the temperature gauge to show accurate in place of just sitting in the middle for a wide range of temps. I tried this already but none of the memory ranges I have worked with the e53 cluster. I've already done this to my e46 and e39 cars. But had no luck with the e53 last time I tried. So I guess I need to start on finishing that off tomorrow so I can be done with coding. My valentine 1 radar detector comes in tomorrow and I have to get started setting it up to work with the aftermarket radio so I can have it display on it. |
Heck, the very first time the X went back to the $tealer for repair under CPO they disabled that feature and refused to turn it back on.
BMW had had to replace too many column motors under warranty (Oooops, failed too soon!) so they instructed $tealers to disable it. |
