Transmission Sensor Circuit Malfunction

Dear Me! Got the P0705 Blues on my 2001 x5 4.4 M62tu with a A5S440Z (5 speed) transmission. Phew, got all that out of the way, now to my problem. Drove the car with a coolant leak. Shortly after, transmission failsafe pops up on display. Code P0705. Confident its not a charging system or battery problem. Thoughts are leaning towards the coolant has migrated into the Park/Neutral Position Switch. Anyone have any input/output electrical values that I can use for diagnosing this switch? I have read of the switch being notoriously faulty. If I find any interruption of electrical signal through the switch, I will open this puppy up to give a look/see. Any thoughts, words from the wise, or from someone who has experienced this switch. Think I should be looking else where in the circuit other than this switch? :)

Good day,

While I don't know how to go about testing the switch for continutiy on what pins, I would say that the code does point specifically at that component... Opening it up would reveal what is wrong with it... and if you can't put it back together or it is damaged beyond repair, you just going with what would need to be done anyway; replacement...

Good luck!

Cheers!!

Did take this switch off transmission. Bench tested with an ohm meter. Values all over the place. Removed the rivets, and opened it up. Surprisingly clean inside, but can see wearing. Decided not to play any longer with this. Purchased a used unit. Bench tested. Values were rock solid. Installed the switch. I've been driving now without the trans failsafe mode being displayed. Slowly working all the kinks out of this rascal, it is an enjoyable beast though. Aargh! Driving to work this morning a "DING" sound and a message displayed on the cluster. Oh no, I didn't want to look...Outside Temperature 37 Degrees. Phew :)
