sounds more than just a vacuum leak. there's a rattling. I bought a new timing chain tensioner and it helped but it still rattles. Does anyone have a link or vid for checking the oil pump? When i put the dip stick in i got no oil level until it reached about 9 quarts so i'm thinking no oil pressure? I opened the lower oil pan and founds tons of crap so i cleaned it out but i can't find the oil pump and the gear i'm suppose to check for the common "loose nuts". Any help is appreciated on that process /link. Thanks.

did some more research last night. Sounds like i have to lower the sub frame to get to the oil pump since i have to remove upper oil pan housing. Does this sound accurate to everyone?

What is year and model of your X5. Please add it to your signature. If the rattling wasn't there before you replaced the timing cover first step is to check your work. There are no coincidences when working on vehicles.

If the proper amount (or more) of oil is in the engine it will show on the dipstick. Oil should be checked when the engine is warm and off. When the engine is off the oil pump is not functioning. Did you overfill the engine?

Why did you replace the upper timing cover?
