Becky has issues... New project!
Good day all!!
Well, I am letting Whitney sit for a while since I can not seem to get a good computer program completed... So, I'm directing my attention to the other vehicles... I have new Arnott air bags for Red... I had planned on putting them in today, but that didn't go as planned either... Another day... I have Becky all legal and on the road... I have all new upper gaskets ready to install to get rid of the "smoke of shame" after sitting at a light... I'll keep yous all posted on the outcome of that experiment... A little history on this one... I got it cheap... Kinda... Last 7 are LV00151... It had ran hot for some reason... PO put a new water pump on it... This did not fix the issue... I later found out the motor had gotten so hot that it melted the spark plug tubes where they touched the cylinder head... I figured this out when I could not get the spark plug socket down to the spark plug... So, out came the motor in favor of a YOU PULL IT YARD (YPIY) motor... The replacement motor is fine, except for the smoke of shame issue... Pulls hard and idles smooth... So, the first question I have for yous guys is what would you use to get rid of that "bars stop leak" stuff?! I'm guessing it was used at some point prior to the motor melt down... While the radiator doesn't really show signs of being clogged, the heater core does... I'd hate to pull the heater core just to get the gunk out of it... It flows hot water, but so slowly the fan cools it off if on any speed other than lowest setting... I haven't really had to deal much with clogged cooling system items... I'd just swap them out in the past, but this heater core is a little bit of work, AFAIK... I have checked the valves and they are open... The inlet hoses are too hot to touch, but the return hose is barely warm... Okay, this is a good start... Thanks all in advance!! Cheers!!! |
If it were me I would remove the lines going to the heater core and flush it out with your choice of " cleaner ". Personally, I would probably go with some form of acid and distilled water and a little pump to circulate it with.

If it was me I would just flip the X and start with another X that wasn't butcher by an owner with Champagne taste but with a Ripple Wine salary.

How aggressive is the coolant flush prestone has?? Any good or bad vibes from it?! Thanks!!! Cheers!!! Quote:
I actually got this one for the perfect body... All the extra is FUN for me to work out... I'd have two decent 2004's if I had a good copy of the programming data... I'm also looking at a blue one that doesn't need much at all... We'll see how that one works out! Thanks!! Cheers!!! |
Good day all!!
Well, another thing off the list... I pulled the Business CD player apart and discovered the "Disk in" switch was open and it was confusing the circuits... I put the arm thingy in place and now it works great... WHOO HOO!! Now on to the next issue... I do not have any FM or AM stations... I checked the amp in the top of the rear hatch and everything is hooked up... Fuse 86 is good... But, I am kinda convinced it is the amp or associated parts as I don't have FOB functions... I have an ant connector behind the CD player in the dash, but no connector in the vehicle that I can find... Anyone have a pic of where this ant wire should be hiding? Should there be one?! The dash CD player and the CD changer in the back both work... That should eliminate the radio and sound amp in the rear left section... Maybe... Hmmmmmmm... Too many spare connectors floating around back there... Cheers all!! |
Good day all!!
Well, I figured I would add some pictures... This is just after I got it home... Just prior to putting the YPIY motor in... I've already corrected the driver side wheels... PO had rear on the front and vice versa... The hood roundel has also been replaced... It had the melted tail light issue... I had a spare from a different project... http://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/xq90/922/9rWm4K.jpg http://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/xq90/922/16ULfq.jpg http://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/xq90/923/hs1iRb.jpg I pulled the return pipe that sits under the intake from the spare (original) motor so I can back flush the heater core... Maybe I will get lucky enough to dislodge enough gunk in the heater core to get some decent heat in the cab... It would be so much better if this one had heated seats... But!! Cheers all!! |
Man your a savior of the X5's E53s!!!!

The good part is I have a surplus of parts!! If I suspect a part is bad on one, I can swap it with one from another (unless coding is a factor "DME")... I know the amp and the radio in Becky works cause I had Whitney's in there with no difference... I think Becky has an antenna amp issue... My remote doesn't work, even after checking the battery and doing the program procedure... Anyone need some N62 motor parts? I have a "melted" motor with good parts... Better to go to someone who needs them than scrap them out! Oh, valve cover gaskets came in... I will try to do a video of the "smoke of shame" before, and then again after everything is cleaned out with new seals... I may do a simple test on the orange valves to see if they are closing off at idle... And then do it again after all new seals are installed... Cheers for now all!!! |
Good day all!!!
Well, this weekend is the big gasket refreash to see if the smoke of shame goes away... I got all the parts the other day, but Red was first on the surgery list... New rear air bags installed and all is better with the World... I was going to do a How-to for the air bag swap, but I think there are a few of those out there already. Cheers for now!! Happy holidays to you and yours!!! |
