These diagrams on the TIS indicates that F5 powers the AGS (transmission control unit): -

https://www.newtis.info/tisv2/a/en/e...0i-sav/khWnWz0

BUT... theres quite a bit of variation between build years etc. so this isn't conclusive.

What is confusing is some diagrams say F5 (terminal 15) and others say F15 (terminal 15). F5 itself is fed from terminal 15 on the fuse board, so there may be some errors in there somewhere.

Either way, it seems possible the F5 (7.5A btw...) is feeding the AGS.

Try removing F5 (or not - it's blown!) and measure the resistance to ground from the GN/WS (Green/White) wires, with the car off but in gear. Then if possible disconnect each of the circuits connected and measure them for shorts to ground - starting with the AGS.

Hi, did you solve this problem?

2001 X5, replaced head gaskets, everything was fine for 2 months, then shifted hard, wouldn't start. Found fuse 5 blown, replaced it, as soon as the car shifts, it blows the fuse again. Per information on other threads, checked oil level sensor, alternator wiring, and efan. No bare wires, shorts, etc. Fuse box says fuse 5 is Eng Control. Anyone had this problem, and how did you fix it? Any thoughts.

Thanks in advance
