4.6is engine replacement time

3 Attachment(s)
Greetings everyone, i'm new to the e53, but not new to the m62b46.

I picked this project up for $2000, not running 4.6is timing guide failure,

It supposedly had the trans rebuilt 1000 miles before engine failure.

I got it home put oil in it and tried to start it, What a noise that put out!! , no throttle response, flashing engine light and stalling. I got the usual p0011, plus many misfire codes.

It looks to me like bent valves, I'm slightly disappointed.

The good news is I have 2, 4.6 engines sitting in my garage

This will be another fun project for me!

2 spare 4.6 engines... Much envy :)

Fun project for sure! It is an 02 or 03?

yes (2), 4.6, (1) 4.5L eaton m112 supercharged (in use now), and (2) 4.4's and now a 3rd 4.6, 6 motors All for 2 cars  I might have too many motors, or is it not enough cars

The x5 4.6is is a 2002, around 134k on it

I'll be buying a set of trim for my e39 from you someday

Leak down test?

Did you do a cylinder leak down test? Unless the chain skipped a bunch, Maybe you don't have bent valves....

Congratulations. Why are you disappointed? You picked up a 4.6is X5 cheap and you have two spare 4.6is engines in your garage so you will be spending very little to make it whole again? Sounds like a win-win to me.

I was hoping for a timing guide replacement, Now i'm at engine replacement, And all the "while you're in there" stuff.

4.6 engine $2,865

Everything else so far around $1000, I'm keeping the car for myself so it doesn't matter how much I spend,

I have not, I did buy a tester, and will do the test. But at 134k miles it's time to fix the oil leaks and clean the engine bay

It will make a nice vehicle once you run through it. I love the way they drive and handle and like yourself I just ran through mine to give it the peace of mind that I like to have with any of my BMWs.
