Real-world E53 wheel weights
As I was shuffling wheels around yesterday, I decided to get out the shipping scale and post up the weights of various wheel/tire combos to serve as a historical reference.
These are wheel/tire combos because I didn't feel like de-mounting and re-mounting tires just to weigh them (I'll weigh the bare rims next time I change tires). Style 57 (17x7.5) with Michelin 235 65 17 8/32 tread - 55.6 lbs Style 130 (17x7.5) with Michelin 235 65 17 9/32 tread - 56.9 lbs Style 69 (18x8.5) with Continental DWS 255 55 18 8/32 tread - 59.5 lbs Style 87 F (20x9.5) with Bridgestone Dueler H/P RFT 275 40 20 8/32 tread - 75.6 lbs Style 87 R (20x10.5) with Bridgestone Dueler H/P RFT 315 35 20 7/32 tread - 80.5 lbs I was surprised the Style 87s weighed so much. From the parts book, they should be 27.4 lbs front and 31.5 lbs rear. Bridgestone says those tires weigh 41 lbs front and 47 lbs rear when new. Subtracting those new tire weights from my wheel weights, the rims would be more than 34.6(f) and 33.5(r) since the tires have some wear. And, these are all OEM rims BTW. I'd be interested if anyone has good weights (not bathroom scale) of the style 63 & 132 with or without tires to compare. |
Update with bare style 87 weights:
Fronts weigh 36.6 lbs Rears weigh 37.0 lbs This includes tire valve and center cap (s/b negligible) but no balancing weights. Also weighed the tires old and new. Bridgestone Dueller runflat 275/40/20F and 315/35/20R about 6-7/32 tread at 38.6 lbs front and 43.2 lbs rear Continental DWS non-RFT in same size with 8-9/32 tread at 28.9 lbs front and 33.3 lbs rear. |
You can bench press 20" wheels. Front heavy and Rear heavier.

Try 21 inch Style 215's WITH run flats.
The rear are stupid heavy and make forged wheels look like cotton balls compared to these bricks! |

Unfortunately I only have bathroom scale weights for the style 168's with run flat tires vs. my Forgestar wheels w/ non-runflats. Doesn't seem too far off your weights (~3lbs)... can post them if you'd like to add them to your first post list. |
These are E70, but I know a lot of you run them on the E53:
OEM Style 214's with Nitto Motivo tires ~8/32 tread Fronts 73.0 lbs, Rears 77.8 lbs X5M alloy spare with tire (pretty much the same as the E53 4.6/4.8 alloy spare) - 40.3 lbs |
OK, I have a new one to add. Picked up an '03 3.0i with only 55k miles for a song and am outfitting it for my father-in-law.
The original 17 wheels with tires ~50% had to go, so I found a nice set of style 132's with near new Michelin Diamaris for $300. I didn't want to take the time to dismount and re-mount tires, but here's the combined wheel/tire weights: Front - 68.9 lbs Rear - 69.3 lbs (using the same shipping scale as my other posts above) Update: 2/2024 Here are the weights bare (new but accurate scale): Front - 35.29 lbs Rear - 36.04 lbs |

Got another one to add...
Style 99 (8x18 4.6/4.8is winter wheel) is 26.2 lbs bare. |
