which way is the air flow?

On mine it was upward. The dirty part of the tray is where the air comes in aka the bottom of the filter. Top is where the clean air goes into the cabin.

which brand do you guys recommend? Thinking of replacing the air filter as well.

what about Bosch?

Should be fine too. It's just a paper filter...

does it matter if it has that carbon stuff built into it?

If you want it to block smells and pollen better get the carbon looking ones.

It really doesn't matter other than that.

Or use the re-circulation button... :nanana:
