Coolant expansion tank - OE, Behr?
 

As the title says, any experience with Behr vs genuine Bmw? Looks like it’s 130$ vs 40$ for Behr.
I’m not one to cheap out on stuff like this but I know Behr used to be OEM on radiators and such. Let me know
My tank is seeping coolant and I need to replace it at 150k miles. Maybe an original one will last another 150? Then it would be worth the 130$ lol

I’ve got an after market one. Been on for about a year. No problems. Works as it should.

I'd trust Behr, but just stay away from Dorman. They're a popular supplier in this country, but only because they're cheap, not because they're good for a part like this, and anything else besides small clips and screws.

Behr is the OEM for many parts of these cars including this, so, go ahead. Don't pay extra bucks for just a logo.

- In the E39 forum, Behr lasts about 1yr than blew up. Aftermarket is even worse.
- Stick to BMW OEM reservoir, it costs a bit more but it protects the most-expensive part: the engine.

Makes sense. I think I’ll stick with the original part. I’d hate to have the new one crack in the middle of nowhere.

I can quote this.... my original one blew after 11 years and 90.000miles. I bought a Behr thinking it would be the same quality... I compared the OE-broken one to the Behr and if I would have had a choice, I would have sent the Behr back immediately.

Long story short. The Behr is much lighter then the OE one = probably a lot less stable and long lasting. Wall thickness is thinner for sure!

I've used it now for a year and it developed a leak at the bottom seal recently. I replaced the seal with a new O-ring (the stock one was a rubber band) and I'm good now...but I'm waiting for the tank to fall apart over the next couple of years.

Sincerly I've had so many problems using aftermarket parts over the last years, that I'm really thinking of sticking to OEM parts...

Thanks for everyone’s input. Went with the original part along with new windshield washer pumps. 2 of them failed on me 6 months ago (yeah can you imagine squirting water on the windshield with a plastic bottle? - reminds me of Eastern Europe lol), and at 15-17$/piece for Siemens -VDO, it was a no brainer.

Can't speak to the V8s, but the BMW OEM for the M54 tank is Modine.
