I am bumping this because I have a very similar situation after my battery died sometime while I was redoing vanos, adding headers, and various other engine things (despite being on a trickle charger). Similar to OP, I have no codes on ECU, but I don't have the RAM thing either.

Can you even get codes if it will not turn over?

Starter is hitting hard on the new battery, but it will not kick over.

I'll have to find my fuel pressure gauge and check the fuel pump relay. Could losing the battery have nuked either of those?

You can get most of the codes read with the key in the run position, but obviously you won't get stuff like valvetronic and so on.
