Blower motor

I have a 2005 E53 4.4 X5. I recently had a battery issue, and after replacing the battery I have no blower for the climate control system. The display for the controller seems to be working but no AC or heat. I forget the fuse numbers but I checked both, according to the owners manual, and both are good. Previously the blower motor made noise if I made a hard turn but no other issues. Is there a way to determine if the blower is getting power or not?

I wrote a detailed trouble-shooting guide for E39 5-series car.
Basically to diagnosis blower motor vs FSR.

Here is the guide...The bottom line is: jump appropriate sockets, if the blower motor runs, then the FSR is bad (if this is the case, use only BMW OEM FSR!)...

Ok that is interesting. I had this random battery issue. The battery would get low and then the alarm would start going off.

A bad FSR is a known issue to drain a battery. When the blower was working, was it at all the speeds or just at the high-speed setting?

It was working at all speeds. Where is the FSR LOCATED?

Over the transmission hump under the dash. Access behind panel on the right side of transmission hump.
Bad FSR is a very common cause of drained battery.

When wife's FSU went bad the only indication was the parasitic drain it worked at seemingly all speeds.

another piece of the puzzle. The rear fan works, and has multiple speeds. Sounding more like the FSR or fan. If I hit the defogger button the rear air cuts off, so it seems like the controller is working.

Rear fan has its own FSR.

I had a bit of a detour as my drivers side window regulator failed and had to get that fixed so I could park it outside. Back to replacing the FSR... Does anyone have pics of the tabs that hold it in?

Replaced the FRS and problem solved. I had a wait a minute pause after installing and within a few seconds the blower came on.
