Power Steering Pump Filter
I have tried searching, but can not find any how-to to clean or change the power steering filter.
Any guide available? Or can anyone tell me how to do it step by step? Cheers, JG |

Yes. I believe that is the only one.
Also a guide to drain and flush the PS fluid completely. |
Its considered disposable. The reservoir should be replaced from time to time since the filter inside isn't meant to be removed and cleaning results are iffy.
I change mine out every few years. Its actually one of the most important steps to a long life for the pump and rack. If the filter clogs or gets restricted a vacuum is formed inside the pump on the feed line side. This causes the vanes on the pump to dig into the housing. Its eats it alive basically. There are pics on the net showing the damage it causes. |
I think I saw yesterday ECS or BAV has these for under $15 for a Febi unit. Plus, the gasket on the lid goes after a while, so you'd need a new lid eventually anyhow.

On the OE, if I recall, it was a flat gasket. The new one while it has the CHF designation (ZF brand - I believe the PS is used on ~alot~ of models), while it's hard to deciper as it feels quite hard, but there seems to be a integrated flat gasket and hard o ring integrated on the cap |
