Hello,

This is a popular upgrade for E46/E90/F20/F30 models, the only drawback for us E53 owners is that we need custom adapters made/machined to fit these properly.

I went another route, we did a 4-piston Stoptech Big Brake Kit with 355mm rotors. They are currently on overstock/clearance at just under $1500, and include everything you need to mount these.

I have had them installed for about 3 months and the braking performance is night and day. I noticed after we installed the kit, the rears became out of balance. After speaking to my shop, they suggested getting more aggresive pads for the rear that will match the fronts, but I decided to go with a rear Stoptech 2-piston Big Brake Kit as well, mainly because the OEM calipers have 200k on them, and the cost to rebuild, with rotors/pads/etc would be very close to the $1350 the rear kit came out to be.

The only negative; we cannot pick the colors. The fronts came in Red and the rears come in Silver or Black.

Website:
StopTech

-Click "Clearance Sale" on the bottom of the list on left hand side
-Re-direct you to www.buybrakes.com, they are handling the clearance/overstock for Stoptech
-Call in with your kit model and C.C. info, and they will ship out in within a week.

Some pictures of the front kit..

355mm is smaller than OE size on 4.8's :(

Otherwise I'd be on this like white on rice.

Oh My My My. E70 X5M and X6m are direct drop in big brakes!!!!! The most expensive components are the OE rotors. The only modification is slight trimming of the front brake splash shield. Rotors are 395mm!!!!!

Short Answer No

It's also probably not worth it either unless they have very large pistons - alot of 4 pot calipers which could be used would be considered a downgrade in performance.

I've got a set of 4 pot AP Racing calipers off a McLaren and whilst I could get them to physically fit quite easily the pistons are too small to be of any performance upgrade. Any better caliper you're considering fitting to an E53 4.6is/4.8is would need to be at least a 6 pot or 8 pot based setup to improve performance.

Hey, they're Style 214 (OEM BMW) off the E70 4.8i sport model.

If you go this route you will need new hubcentric rings as the E70 has a bigger center bore.

The e70 has a 74.1mm center hub bore, while the E53's have 72.6mm.
