You and two other techs have concluded that. I'm going to replace the front left strut/bag assembly hopefully in early June. What sucks is that my airbags are good so I hate to have to replace them, but I can't stand the clunking. Literally ruins the ride. If I wasn't OCD I could probably deal with it for a while, but suspension quality is not something I like to compromise with

I can't drive a car with bad suspension, brakes, or drivetrain. everything else's just cake vs that stuff. Id hate to fork up the cash for it but I'd fix the suspension just like you would.

mine has a slight clunk too if im light on the brakes making a right turn, and the left wheel hits a small bump. The struts are dead in my truck at 151k and thats the only thing I havent replaced. So new struts all around and top hats should cure it. Same goes for you.

It turns out the issue was with the front left strut assembly. Not sure exactly what the defect is, maybe bad bearings in the strut body or something. The current suspension only have 5k on them. My X is equipped with Arnott OE remans so I got a replacement sent out and I removed the old and installed the new this past weekend and couldn't be happier with the ride. The install was straight forward. I installed it without any issues.

Interesting. Glad it worked out.

So was it covered under warranty? Do you need to do alignment after shock/strut replacement? I know I didn't when disconnecting to replace bearings but that doesn't mess with the top of the strut.

Glad to see I was on track with where the source was.

Yeah Arnott offers lifetime warranty. I always recommend an alignment on a car where struts, arms and other big components are removed. The car drives fine, it I can definitely feel the need for an alignment. I’m trying to find a place that will just do the front end as I don’t feel the feel for a 4 wheel since nothing was done to the rear.
