Sunroof control clips

has anyone ever changed these? looks like mine are cracked. i was able to change the front ones that connect to the levers but not the main ones on the rail.
My question is do you need to take out the full sunroof tray to change them or can they be changed with the tray in place and just work it out through the roof?

- My guess is that the X5 setup is similar to the E39 5-series sunroof.
