Driver door shuts with a thud as if it's going to fall apart
My 2005 4.4 driver's door shuts with such a thud as if it's going to fall apart. It sounds like there're loose parts inside, but everything works fine. It sounds like a cheap car. The other doors sound like a bimmer door, with a nice soft thump sound.
Any ideas on a fix? Sound deadening insulation? Seals need to be replaced? They look fine though. Thanks for any pointers. |
When you figure it out... let me know. Mine is the same. Driver's door only. And I've been in there to replace the regulator clips and do the zip-tie mod. Didn't see any obvious signs of anything out of place.

If I have the window in any position except full up, my door sounds cheap.
All new sliding aftermarket clips and black clip also. Not sure who designed the window sound with the clang, but chinsey it spunds. |
Hi guys, check the bolt and lock nut at the top of the window track. Mine did the same thing so I replaced the clips and guides only to still have the problem.
When I had time to really dig in to it I realized the lock nut at the top of the track (towards the door latch side) had come completely off. I found it, fished it out of the door and put everything back together and boom - problem solved. Good luck! Sent from my iPhone using Xoutpost.com |
when you close your door keep the window all the way up.....other wise it's going to brake......

I would second that! I actually think it's the "torque" of the window flexing the track when it's partially down that causes the lock but to back off the track. Once you have it fixed, it is definitely a good idea to make sure the window is all the way up before closing the door. Sent from my iPhone using Xoutpost.com |
Also check to see if the window regulator wire sheath is secured (zip-tied) to the inner door frame cross member.

I believe it is number 3 at the top of the track. It is he same as the small nut that that tightens the window clips but again, at the very top of the track. If you follow the window track to the top, you'll see it. You will have to pull back the sound deadner, it is tucked in behind that. Sent from my iPhone using Xoutpost.com |
