Passenger rear door lock gremlin

Hi all,
So, here's the deal.........right rear door will lock when using key to lock car, will not unlock with key, will not lock with center console door lock button, will not unlock with button either.
Why does the lock work with my key to lock it, but does nothing else???
I have not taken note of what it does upon auto-lock feature when car hits certain speed......will test that condition tomorrow.
Any ideas of what is causing this???

Don't know this for fact but possibly the CLS button is failing, since everything runs through that primary button/module, that would be my first guess.

I guess it's also possible that the lock unit in the door is failing, Lind of like a window regulator will roll down but not up.

Good luck with that - maybe someone with some more experience will chime in.

Lock actuator likely failed

yes, i agree, lock actuator failed. there is a solenoid in there that actuates the rod (#19) to raise the lock button. I have done 2 on my X5, and a few more on other bmws as well!

Are you sure it's a solenoid in there? When I repaired the door lock actuator in my driver's door, there were two motors, one to unlock and one to lock. No solenoids, though. In my case, one of the motors was just fine but the other one was just about dead by the time I got to it.
