OEM Trailer hitch?
3 Attachment(s)
Hi guys,
My local junk yard had 04 X5 with trailer hitch but not sure whether this is OEM or not. Does this look like OEM trailer hitch to you? Especially the connector, shouldn't that be round plug instead 4pin? |
You are correct OP. However it looks like a previous owner might have retrofitted the 4 pin socket to fit another application. There are only 2 bolts supporting the bumper cover so you might as well take a look to be sure.
|
Looks like an OE dealer accessory Westfalia hitch with a 4 pin flat adapter plugged in.
|
I'm going over there tomorrow, so I'll report back.
I'll have to remove it myself, but we agreed on $100 for all the parts needed for retrofit, which is difficult to pass. |
good find
don't forget to pull the trailer light module under the plastic covers next to the battery |

Took 2 hrs to remove all parts needed for the retrofit. $100 well spent. :D

Nice steal! |
I must say dealing with rusted bolt/nut is the worst nightmare for DIYers.
Luckily I managed to remove all hardware without being rounded. Now I'll need another 3 hrs to install this onto my car. ha.... |
take your time. clean all parts, rust treat the metal with a brush-on or spray and even spray paint before install. if it looks good before it goes on you'll be even prouder of the install.
clean all metal to metal surfaces to ensure no rocks/crud in between during install and this will go on easily. |
