Need Help Finding Part # for Pulleys

Hey All,

The other week I ordered a new serp belt and idler pulley for my M62 X5, however, the pulley I got is larger than the ones currently in the car. I followed the RealOEM parts diagram and ordered the following part #: 11287500560 as shown in the diagram below.

This is what I ended up getting:

But this pulley is too big to replace the one currently on the engine.

I'm trying to replace the 2 pulleys shown here to eliminate the bad bearing squeal.

Anybody have the correct part number or know what i'm doing wrong?

P.S. There is coolant and oil spillage because I had just finished up replacing the timing cover gaskets.

Do you know the history of your E53?

What is the part number of the currently installed pulley?

Pulley might have been replaced by a PO with the wrong part?

The undersized pulley might be a reason for the squealing you are experiencing?

It only recently started squealing so I figured while I do the timing cover gasket I also replace the belt and pulleys.

Gotcha.

Checked realoem for my own M62 and the part number is correct. Size is listed at 80mm.

Checked the history of that part and it is used on E39's. It did supercede an earlier part number but the old part was 80mm too.

Part number on box checks out, I wonder which is correct, the installed part or the one in the box? Packaging errors do happen sometimes.

Bizarre, thanks for looking that up for me. I will measure the pulley and reach out to the vendor if there is a discrepancy.

EDIT: Measured the pulley I got and it is 80 MM...

What does your pulley measure as? (The one you’re trying to replace.)

No problem!

So it looks like you got the correct part. If the one you are replacing is smaller I suspect it was someone's mistake along the line.

Probably a good idea to check the rest of the belt drive system for any other surprises that came with that smaller pulley.

Sigh, I was able to confirm i'm not crazy and the pulley I got (80mm) is larger diameter than all 3 belt pulleys on the engine:

Now, heres my problem... this is the little room i'm working with if I replace either pulley:

So I say F&^$ it and remove the belt, loosen up the tensioner, and it seems like once I replace the upper pulley I can tighten the tensioner to a spot where I should have enough clearance so that each pulley and belt don't collide with each other, *should*.

But, of course, wife wasn't around to help me hold a freaking flash light so this happened:

Now I need to find out if I can find the washer separately or need to buy a whole damn tensioner unit... unfreaking unbelievable.

Ugh. That sucks. What part is that, I dont recall it.

That space is why I serviced every pulley at the same time. That area is tight on the V8's, it's a lot easier with the I6.

It’s not listed on any real OEM diagrams so I’m guessing it’s part of the whole tensioner unit and can only be purchased together. I’m gonna just run the pulley without it when I get home if I can’t find it at the dealer or a hardware store.
