Weird Glitch

Hi guys,
I installed the ABS module which had come back from being repaired because it wouldn't send signals to the pre-charge pump. It seemed fine after I installed it. I cleared the codes and everything looked good. Drove it to work and back without lights on, it was was fine.

Next day, funny knocking sound from underneath. Let it sit a while, come back. All lights are out and drives fine.

When you say "no-codes" what are you using for testing?

Sounds like your front drive shaft splines are worn out and partially engaging from time to time.

I think there was a similar thread where one of the front axle shafts had popped out.

You said you heard the park prawl but I highly doubt that I suspect that engaged properly and as others suspected, the slip is a spline either at the front drive shaft (usually occurs at the transfer case) or one of the CV axles popped out (they are held only by a snap ring) either would make the sound you describe.

If either of the CV you should be able to see if it's not into the differential completely. The front axle spline is right below the driver's butt if left hand drive as in the USA. If either problem my understanding is you can defeat the front drive train by unplugging a fuse for the transfer case.

Neither the front axle nor CV is terribly difficult but use axle puller on driver (left) CV it's a bear to jimmy off with prybar etc very difficult.

Learn how to disable the transfer case. If any of the three front splines are at fault it could get you home without a tow.
