Question about coolant lines.
 

Can someone tell me if changing this lines at 114k it's a good idea?
Im removing the manifold for other maintenance items, and I was wondering if I should do those too.

If so, can you please tell me how are those called?
I searched for coolant hoses, but cant find them.

a full replacement of all coolant lines and the expansion tank is typically a 100k item as a preventive measure. You start having failures after that and piecemealing it is cost and time prohibiting.
So yes, if nothing else, I'd replace them, but do yourself a favor and do them all.

Check on RealOEM for your vehicle.. Look under both the engine section for the front main hoses and in the heating and air conditioning section for the hoses that go from the engine to the heater.

I'm also doing the expansion tank and water pump thermostat etc.
And will do those too, but I cant find them, do you know how they are called?

Below is the diagram for M54 engine.

Part #8 11531705210, is what you want to replace (Mine is still stock at 130K miles, no leak). Use only BMW OEM part, no aftermarket.

If you are replacing the coolant expansion tank, do yourself a favor and also replace the Exp Tank Mounting Plate and other PLASTIC components(water distribution pipe, Oil Cooler Thermo Housing, X-Rings(rubber-on oil cooler)) associated with it too. I GUARANTEE they are all BRITTLE due to age and WILL BREAK upon removal........ask me how I know!:(
The OEM bracket is made by Behr(DO NOT buy any other brand, as they prob will NOT seat correctly when reassembling-----again, ask me how I know).

One question, where did you buy the Berh hoses?
I was only able to find from Impart.

Behr normally make the hard plastic bits. Rein/Continental make the hoses; they're fine to use.

Modine is the OE supplier to BMW for the expansion tank BTW. Strongly agree with the suggestion to replace the plastic bits; they will be brittle; at the very least, you will almost certainly destroy the trans thermostat when removing it. It's not that much more to replace the vertical coolant channel and the little distribution piece.

I'm not usually a fan of URO brand parts; but they make an aluminum tube version to replace the hard plastic engine inlet pipe. Can't vouch for it, but if it prevents the common crack right at the engine inlet, it might be worth it. $40 and change at Rockauto.com

I try to buy as many parts as I can from FCPeuro. Plus, their prices are very competitive to other online places.
I've also bought stuff from Autohaus, Pelican, Rock, Amazon, on down the line.

On another note, if you replace mounting plate, there is a plastic rivet-like retainer located at the bottom of it that holds it firm to radiator. It is removed by pulling center spreading pin all the way out, then squeezing backside of rivet spreading fingers together to push it back out of holes(radiator and MP):thumbup:

- My 2006 X5 3.0i is now at 133K miles.
No leak from the plastic pipe #8 in the photo below).

Question: for those with leak at the PN #7 and #8 area, at what miles did that happen?
I am trying to figure out when I need to replace #7 and #8 on a preventive basis...
