I have cooper ATP in 265-70-17 on my 2003 X5 MT. They fit well. There is not much clearance, but they fit. These are all-terrain so you should be ok.

Now I know what to do with my snow tires rims, that I'm not going to use when we move to Texas next year. They are 18in, but it will work.

265 width is ok on a 7.5'' factory rim?

Ideal (aka “safe”) tire size is 215mm - 225mm on a 7.5” x17” wheel...you can see in the chart what the min/max tire width for a 7.5” wheel is.

A 265mm width tire is best suited for a wheel that is 9”-10.5” wide. But you be the judge if you want to squeeze a tire that wide on a narrow wheel.

Yes, that is why I ask. It is clearly beyond the recommended limits of a stock 7.5'' rim. The factory 3.0i size is a 17x 7.5'' wheel and the factory size is 235/65R17.
