X5 Rear Hatch Not Working

Hi all, I've been working on a 2006 3.0 for a little while now and I'm a little bit stumped at this point. The hatch does not work at all. I've replaced the actuator with a (supposedly working) good condition one from eBay, but to no avail. I made sure the part numbers were correct for the vehicle, and the new part looks identical to the old part. Now when I press the hatch release button in the center console, I occasionally hear a click, but it's pretty intermittent. Nothing happens when I use the button on the hatch itself.

As part of the troubleshooting process I checked every single fuse that could be related to the rear hatch, but everything seems to be fine with that. There aren't any errors in any of the modules related to this when I scanned it with PA Soft either...

Are there any diagrams of the hatch actuator wiring that I can reference? I'm thinking the next step would be to try and manually activate the hatch actuator with an external power source to see if the actuator is working or not. If that's working correctly then it's a wiring issue in the vehicle itself.

Something else that's not working that may or may not be related is the remote key. The key is a brand new OEM key, ordered from a dealership. I've attempted to initialize it but that isn't working either. The key still starts the X5 and locks/unlocks the doors. The central locking fuse is fine as well, and I can lock/unlock the X5 from the door handle and from the interior lock/unlock button. When I lock/unlock it with the key, it makes all the normal sounds and beeps.

The other issue is that none of the power outlets work aside from the ones in the trunk area... the fuses for that are all fine too, oddly enough. Not sure if the key and outlet issues are related to the hatch issue, but I figured I'd mention them in case they're related to some big underlying cause (like a faulty GM?).

Any help/advice would be much appreciated, thanks!

X5 Rear Hatch Not Working

Sounds like you have a wire bundle with some damage.

The wire bundle going through the right side of the hatch on my car was filled with water and when I emptied it out suddenly my remote worked again for a while.

I would take off the inside skin of the hatch and follow all the wires. I'm confident you will find problems like worn through insulation or corroded connectors

:iagree:

The receiver for the key fob remote receiver is at the back, along with the wiring for the SCA. Sounds like something is amiss back there...

Although I think the General Module is also common to these functions also...

Wiring diagrams etc. are all on NewTIS...

And just because... this diagram has BOTH the remote locking AND the SCA on it...

Here's some additional info/data about the "face lift" SCA (soft close) tail gate that you can put under your cap in addition to the info you find on the newtis.info website. Take note of the K112 relay (for SCA open)...if you need quick help in its location...use the newtis.info website's search feature...just enter your VIN info, then type "K112" in the search box:

I’m curious where I can obtain detailed diagrams like the one posted above.
My X5 has two amp draws: F11 and F60. One of them is keeping it awake. Detailed pics would help over my Bentley manual and anything found on line so far.

You can still get access to the newtis.info site. You just have to create an account and login.

Look towards the top right hand for the icon of the person and click on it

You didn't mention it, and it may not be related, but you should pull the central locking button in the center console below shifter and see if the bottom of the switch assembly is broken...you can superglue it back together if it is.

People over the decades have uploaded BMW Tech info PDFs…with some simple google searches with a few key words can usually find them.

For example…type something like bmw university technical training pdf into a google search box and see if you get some results for technical training documents that you can download and save for future reference and self-help learning.

Super thanks Qsilver7 and c-bass! A new USB drive will be bought to compile all the info. PDF being searchable helps too. Using "correct" technical terms does provide better searches.
