Wheel Hub issue Pre 4/2000 Prod date
 

Having a problem finding wheel hub for production date before 4/2000, my production date is 12/1999. All sites are listing bearing with references to a hub that no one in this country stocks. FCP Eeuro and my local guru in doyelstown Pa. Fellow at one of the stores read that the listing he has for my vin is for the later production date bearing and hub which according to specs is 5mm larger in diameter. I hate to have to pull apart and have a dead vehicle.

Can you post up at least one of the BMW 11 digit part nbrs that you're unsure of which would help paint a clearer picture (and give the forum some details) of what exactly it is that you're having trouble finding? Help us help you better...I don't know your model of e53 X5 or if it is the front or rear axle wheel hub info you're seeking. :)



Having the last 7 digits of your VIN would be the biggest help for any forum member that has access to part database information...without it is searching blindly which after a lot of search may stumble upon some info...but again, we don't know which axle nor which model X5 you have so the info could be wrong.

Just go to a junkyard and buy an upright from a later date X5. Problem solved.

I guess that would help, last seven is LH02910 with a production date of 12/99. Front axle are what’s needed, without taking apart specs are 85mm diameter for pre 4/2000 and post 4/2000 is 90mm. Big difference!

Thanks Upallnight there a pretty silver 3.0 in the junk yard near me but that’s going to be my second choice, first choice is to remove race from hub, I’ve had success before, but as you know when you need it to work, it’ll be the one time it doesn’t. I’m wondering is the only reason that the hub needs to be replaced is because the race is stuck on there or is it just a wear item

Hub can be reused as long as when you remove the inner race from it you don't mess up the hub too badly. You can use a dremel to cut a groove in the race and smack it with a chisel to crack it to relieve the friction fit between the race and the hub shaft.

You could have a bit of an issue getting the old one out of the hub, as this is a known problem, thus resulting in the need for a new one...

There is probably a reason BMW decided to go to the bigger bearing so early in the production run... The smaller one may have been more expensive and it was a financial reason for the change... BUT it may also have been a longevity issue...

And finally, it will probably be quicker... Not so much easier, but you won't need to deal with the bearing pull and replace part... As long as the salvage X had no damage in that area... and the bearing turned without vibration...

Thanks! I got old race off by heating it and keeping hub as cool as possible. I did grind a notch so I could hit it with a chisel but wound up getting it off with big channel locks
