Arnott New vs Reman: pros and cons

Looking to replace front air struts due to leakage/sagging on driver side. I have 2-axle leveling on 4.8is.
Arnott website shows pair of Remanufactured (AS-2305/6) costs $223 more than New (AS-2764/5) with core rebate included.
I am curious what is really the difference between New and Remanufactured once installed?

I searched xoutpost for previous threads but could not find one addressing that difference, kindly point me to the right place if it exists.

Do they both carry lifetime warranty?

I would go with the one with lifetime warranty.

Warranty is definitely a winner

I got mine through Rock Auto and warranty can be claimed through their site as well.

I would highly recommend Arnott. I had an issue with one new shock last year and they replaced it immediately and more than made up for it.

Here's a DIY of the install I made, hope it helps you get the job done:

I actually followed your DIY. Installed Arnott air strut last weekend.

Arnott New vs Reman: pros and cons

I replaced my front struts in February, and the right one failed last month. Arnott said I needed to return it through RockAuto. RockAuto has a two year warranty return, so for the lifetime warranty you need to buy direct from Arnott. Arnott pricing is quite a bit more than RockAuto.

My strut failed catastrophically while parked in the driveway. It took me a day or two to realize why the car alarm went off!

I used your video too...thanks a lot!

So no answer to the OP’s question?

Difference between new and remanufactured is just that, one is brand new, never installed, used or otherwise and a remanufactured has usually suffered a failure within a reasonable amount of time from its original production date and that failure repaired by the manufacturers. As to what’s the difference once installed, nothing really, one is still new and the other is remanufactured but either could fail at anytime, hence why you can buy them remanufactured [emoji106]

That said, I would not pay more for a reman than a new simply because what you are really buying is “used” no matter how well it was remanufactured.

Obviously just my opinion as I have purchased plenty of remanufactured items over my lifetime. My wife asked me why once and my response was that someone else had already found the weak point and the manufacturer fixed it [emoji16]

All that said, if the price is right and the warrants the same... well, then go for it. Or, if the price is exceptional and the warranty doesn’t matter.., well, there’s food for thought too.
