Cam position sensor 04 4.4 X5 location
Ok so I have cam position sensor bank 1 code 2741 for my new to me 2004 4.4 X5, did some google images searches and all the pics show the cam sensor on the front passenger side of the motor and my is not there???? I also saw some other pics showing cam sensors on the back corner of the passenger side of the motor??? So I’m a bit confused, so either my X5 has had an engine swap or the pics on the google search are wrong, or I’m an idiot and they in front of the motor and I can’t see them?

Use real OEM and your VIN to find your exact motor. The diagrams usually will show you exactly where to find them.
On the V8 BMW motors I've worked on the CPS are right in the front of the motor bolted into the timing chain cover or valve cover. Held by a single 5mm or 6mm (tool) Allen screw. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro |

If you are in the USA that is the right/starboard side and is the first photo of you have a RHD vehicle then it's the second pic which I included more for clarity. The stb side photo the CPS was covered up but I placed the arrow pointing at the screw. They are easy to get at. I forgot the V8 doesn't have CPS on the exhaust cam it must use the crank sensor to know where those are. |

Your images aren't available...go back to Dropbox and make sure that you check something off that allows PUBLIC access to your images.
Also check their resolution...if you have your image resolution set high (like 3500x2500) the site may be blocking them. You should resize them to approx 800x600...that way you can probably upload them as attachments. Which version of the site are you using? Are you using desktop or mobile? If using desktop version, click the ADVNACED button at bottom of message box, then scroll down to MANAGE ATTACHMENTS. Again, if you are using supper ginormous images...then you should be able to upload the images as attachments from whatever device you're using if you meet the size requirement. |
Won’t work that way either damn

So it looks like my X5 has two camshaft sensors per side in the rear of each cylinder head a upper one and a lower one so I replaced the upper one and the engine light is still on so I’ll try to replace the lower one tomorrow!???
