MID Toggle Button not working, DSC Notice?

Hey guys, sorry about dropping all these different threads... just different things I have noticed going on here lately.

So when I first got my X5, the "BC" button on the turning signal stick coming off the steering column worked. It has since stopped working, checked all of the fuses and connections that I could find on the steering column but haven't found anything, is it common for these to stop working? Is a replacement for this specific modules possible or do I need to replace the whole turning signal stick?

Also at random intervals and sometimes not at all I will get a notice while driving that says "DSC Inactive" and the Information light stays on until the engine is shut off. When it's turned off for even a moment I guess the information resets. I've seen where the DSC notice is common for the E53 but never found a consistent underlying reason. Note, before this notice pops up I can toggle the DSC without issue, but once the notice comes up I can no longer change it. No noticeable hills in my area short of going across an overpass so it isn't really necessary as far as I can tell.

*Edit

Also I have noticed the manual shift option doesn't not work, the X5 is an automatic, but has the sport shift option.... just doesn't work.

When multiple systems start playing up like this, the first go-to check has to be the power systems - battery and alternator.

Can you unlock the hidden BC menu on the cluster and if so, what voltage does item #9 (UBAT: ) read while driving?

Both were replaced two years ago. I did have a bad OFH Gasket leak when I got the car, right by the alternator. Any chance it may have killed it?

How would I access that? I have an OBD Connecting Computer. Never tried any of the hidden stuff.

No computer needed - the hidden BC menu is built into your cluster. You access it by holding down the right side cluster button (on a high cluster) until the menu appears. It needs to be unlocked to display various diagnostic items. There's a ton of info on how to do this both on this site and others - like this...

BMW X5 - Access the Hidden Onboard Computer (OBC) Functions.

Just to verify (because it wasn't covered)...has power to the car been removed (like battery cables disconnected) since the time the turn indicator's BC button stopped working?

If so, then all you need to do is reprogram the OBC features you want to appear in the cluster display. The 20-digit alpha numeric display in the high cluster has 1st priority to the Check Control System. The fact that the OBC features can be displayed there is a fringe benefit...because the "main" display for the OBC is the MID or the Nav screen.

To re-program the OBC features to appear in the high cluster's 20-digit alpha numeric display...press & hold the BC button until you see PROG appear:

...then depending on if you have the MID or the Nav screen...make the selections on the aforementioned component you have in the order you'd like them to scroll through when you press the turn indicator's BC button.

When you've finished...press SET (if you have the MID)

...or MEMORIZE (if you have the Nav screen)...you can see the OBC features that have been "checked off"...they are the ones that will appear in the "scroll" when the BC button is pressed:

I had the turn-signal OBC stalk button fail. I picked up a new-used stalk online and everything worked after it was fitted.
(Thinks: That was something like 13 years ago. WOW!)
