Transmission swap.

Folks, does the E70 4.8i tranny fit straight into the E53 4.8iS
I'm seeing they have the same name, but 6hp26z. But I'm not sure if they're actually the same.

Anyone know.

Its a smiliar engine but the mounting points may be different. No guarantee

And I think the transfer case is different - the 4.8iS uses an ATC500 and the E70 uses an ATC700...?

Mechanical mounts can be dealt with but the ECUs for the transmission and the transfer case would be harder to sort....

I would go to a transmission shop that rebuilds BMW transmission and also does the install and see what they say. If they can't confirm it is a plug and play it's not something I would do. I would have to have a very good reason to attempt the change. Not a good area to be a pioneer. I would rebuild what I have.
