No coolant level sensing in 2001 3.0i?
I am in the process of replacing the coolant expansion tank. I have done this before ( but it was what, a decade ago?!? :-) Anyway, I don't know if I left this disconnected last time I did this, but I can't find the electrical plug that goes to the coolant level sensor at the bottom of the coolant expansion tank.
Is there actually one in this vehicle? If my memory serves me well, I think there isn't one... 2001 BMW X5 3.01 (10/00 production) |
I think lots of them were never connected or even disconnected and coded out because they gave a lot of trouble.

I just did my tank in my '06. I had the sensor which just twists in on the bottom.
It was routed over from a cable bundle below the left headlight..sort of by the sub-frame member that runs by the tank. My Bentley manual mentioned disconnecting it and didn't state any omissions by year. |
My 2001 3.0i with the high tech cluster has a coolant level sensor. I think at some point this issue was discussed on here, and the conclusion was that on these early 3.0i's, you had it / not based on whether you had the high tech cluster.

Ok, definitely the instrument cluster on mine is the basic one. Interesting. OK, maybe I accidentally tucked away the connector last time. Thanks for pointing out where it comes from in your vehicle! This is super helpful guys. Thank you all!
