New shock absorber with air suspension
 

Hi everybody,

Do somebody know if there is any shock absorber for the front, like Bilstein or something equal, I can combine with the air suspension at my 4,8is?

I have a small hole in the front and have to change them. Since I feel the original dampers a little bumpy I would like to improve them and not install oem ones.

I know Arnott, but I think they are like the originals.

Is it possible to install the air thing on any shock absorber for the e53 or are they special for air suspension?

For the front, if you have air springs - it's an integrated unit. Arnott makes a fine product.
For the rear, with air springs, you can indeed chose any shock you like - such as Bilstein (which is what I did - B6 in the rear with no regrets)

So there is no possibility to install for example bilstein B6 in the front with the air strut?

I would like to do so because the oem shock absorber are a little bit bumpy and i think the arnotts will be like the oems

As noted it’s an integrated unit. The air spring and the shock/strut are separable for replacement (for example I have Arnott bags on my bmw supplied struts). Unless your desired brand specifically makes that strut unit, you won’t be able to get creative with components. I think you will find the options quite limited.

So I replaced them with new air struts.

I also tried to change the fittings to new ones, but I couldn't push the air line trough the new ones and broke the new fittings twice...

If i had dto do it again I would always left the fittings in place...
