What the inside of the resonator looks like

Cut open to see what design was inside. This is from a 4.6iS not sure if it's the same on all trims.

Two straight pipes with staggered perforated sections and baffles.

They also seem chambered at the middle so basically stock has no crossovers at all.

This ends the x-pipe vs straight pipe debate now lol jkjk

Brilliant. Thanks for doing the dirty work.

Bravo sir. Bravo.

I always thought that they cross over. I guess not. I went with an X-pipe after I deleted the resonator.

This is so good!

Got me thinking on new ideas for my resonator!

I had straight pipes before and honestly wasn't too happy after doing x-pipes.

So I was really curious what it looked like inside.

On my 4.8is the X-pipe made it really quiet and all burble was lost as well. Thinking of going back to straight pipes especially even more now that I see factory had no crossover what so ever.

One thing that was definitely noticeable after x-pipe was that the engine breaking was definitely reduced, especially noticeable with the ZF 6spd which likes to downshift early when coasting to a stop.

It was smoother for sure with the X-pipe but I want my sound back.

Can you see where it goes down from 55mm to 50mm on the drivers side exhaust inlet? Is there any connection between the front chamber and the rear?

mr_robot 01-04-2019 12:32 AM

No there is no connection from front to back. The two chambers are completely blocked off.

Been thinking of trying an h-pipe as well and searching here so many people are were wrong (probably just assuming) that the stock resonator has an x-pipe inside or some type of balancing act lol
